CPI(M) Protests Casteist Attack on Dalit Bridegroom

ACTIVISTS of the Janwadi Mahila Samiti, Democratic Youth Federation of India and the Students’ Federation of India held a demonstration on February 25 at the Police Headquarters in New Delhi to protest against the casteist attack on the marriage procession of a Dalit youth in Maidangarhi on February 23.

The demonstrators were addressed by Asha Sharma (JMS), Rattan (DYFI) and Sunand (SFI). They strongly condemned the casteist attack and demanded exemplary punishment for its perpetrators. They accused the police of shielding others involved in this attack and demanded that all those involved be brought to book. Upper caste elements in Maidangarhi are threatening the 50 odd Dalit families living there. The police must provide adequate protection to them and prevent any recurrence of such incidents, they said.

A delegation met the Joint Police Commissioner after the demonstration and urged him to ensure the arrest of all the accused and take action against those police personnel involved in shielding the guilty.
