Muzaffarnagar Riots
The

THE
Polit Bureau of the
Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep concern
at the communal
violence which has erupted in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining
areas in Uttar
Pradesh. The CPI(M) strongly condemns the violence which
has led to the
deaths of 28 people and injuries to many, including children.
The
large-scale riot was
sparked off by a small incident which occurred nearly ten days
earlier, but the
laxity of the administration has allowed the communal elements
to exploit the
situation. There has been a series of communal incidents
in the state in
the past one year. The state government has not shown the
vigilance
required to curb such incidents promptly.
The
role of the BJP and
the RSS in fomenting tensions has been there and, in
Muzaffarnagar too, this is
evident.
The
Polit Bureau demands
that firm and strong action be taken to put an end to the
violence and to
arrest the culprits. The
administration
should involve all sections of the people to restore peace and
amity.
