CPI(M) Condemns Ramban Firing

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on July 19, 2013.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the brutal firing by the BSF on protesters in Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir killing at least four civilians and causing serious injuries to scores of others. At least 13 injured in the firing have been admitted to a hospital. The CPI(M) demands immediate action against those BSF personnel responsible for the killing.

The central government continues its utterly insensitive approach to the situation in the valley. Even on earlier occasions no one has been held accountable or punished for the killing of civilians. For example, even though assurances were given, no one has been punished for the killing of over 100 young men by the security forces in the summer of 2010. Further, no steps have been taken towards a political solution to the problems in spite of the reports and recommendations of numerous commissions, committees etc.

It is essential to take strong action against those responsible for the brutalities perpetrated by the security forces and police in the valley. The CPI(M) urges the central government to act without any further delay.
