Haryana: CPI(M) Condemns Lathicharge

THE Haryana state unit of the CPI(M) has strongly condemned the severe lathicharge on a demonstration of dismissed Maruti workers and other social organisations. The demonstrators were protesting at Kaithal for reinstatement of a large number of workers who were illegally dismissed, and for putting an end to the ruthless suppression of workers.

In a press note issued from Rohtak, May 19, CPI(M) state secretary Inderjit Singh informed that those injured and arrested included Prem Chand, a municipal councillor belonging to the CPI(M), and several other activists including women.

The party has criticised the Haryana chief minister for going back on his assurance, given last month, to Maruti workers at Chandigarh regarding their issues. The party has also criticised the increasingly indiscriminate and blind misuse of police force by the Haryana government for suppressing the genuine protests of various sections of people who are opposing the misrule of the Congress government.

The CPI(M) has demanded immediate release of all the arrested workers and action against police officers responsible for unwarranted action on peaceful protestors.
