SFI Condemns Repression on Activists in HP

The central executive committee of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has issued the following statement on May 22:

THE repression of the activists of SFI in the hands of ruling classes continues in Himachal Pradesh with three more activists being picked up on May 22 by the police from the bus while they were on the way to attend a meeting. All three activists are state committee members and included Shimla district secretary and president, as well the vice-president of the HPU unit. 26 comrades have already been put behind the bars on the false attempt to murder charges, and with these arrests majority of state committee is today behind the bars and only one comrade is left at the state centre.

It must be stressed that all these incidents are not isolated incidents rather constitute a concerted attack on the campus democracy which has posed a formidable resistance to the ruling class politics in the state. President of India, Pranab Mukherjee is coming to HPU tomorrow for the convocation and the entire campus is being cleansed of SFI activists, as if campus democracy is something which is antithetical to the democratic values which the president of India represents. The central executive committee condemns this ruthless and shameful repression.
