A SERIES of May Day programmes started in Delhi with CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury hoisting the red flag at AKG Bhavan at 10 a m, as a part of the observance of the day.

Following a day of programmes, workers and others took out a huge joint procession from the Ramlila Maidan at 4 p m, and it culminated in a mass meeting at the Town Hall in Chandni Chowk. Leaders of various trade unions addressed it.

After hoisting the red flag at the party headquarters, Yechury underlined the importance of the International Labour Day, and specified the requirements of the struggle that are needed to rebuff and defeat the neo-liberal policies, in order to forge a policy-based alternative and move on to the stage of socialism.

CITU president A K Padmanabhan also addressed the meeting which Central Secretariat members Joginder Sharma, Srinivas Rao and Hari Singh Kang also attended along with the comrades working at the party centre.
