Comrade K Shankaran

COMRADE K Shankaran, who worked with us at the party headquarters in Delhi for several years, is now no more. On May 5 evening, when he was going from his office in Kerala to his home, a motorcycle hit and badly injured him at Anakal in Trissur district and he breathed his last late in night. He was 67.

After having voluntarily and prematurely retired from government service, Comrade Shankaran came to the party headquarters as a wholetimer in 1985. Because of his health as well as family problems, he shifted to Kerala in 1994 and started a new stint pf party work in Trissur district, and was a member of the Cherp area committee and president of the panchayat unit of Kisan Sabha at the time he died. He was also the elected president of a local cooperative bank.

At the condolence meeting organised in his memory at AKG Bhavan on May 7, Prakash Karat remembered him as a very responsible and duty-minded comrade, adding that he not only served at the central party office for about a decade but was also called for help at the time of party congresses.

Through a message sent to the Trissur district secretary of the party, the general secretary conveyed his condolences to the late comrade’s wife and daughter.

At the condolence meeting, Muralidharan recalled his experiences of working shoulder to shoulder with Comrade Shankaran and specifically mentioned the late comrade’s willingness to help other comrades.

Polit Bureau member S Ramachandran Pillai chaired the condolence meeting which Polit Bureau member K Varadha Rajan and Central Secretariat members Joginder Sharma, Srinivas Rao and Hari Singh Kang also attended along with the comrades working at the party centre.

The meeting observed standing silence in memory of the deceased comrade.
