On
Strengthening and Consolidating
Working Class Unity
THE
14th conference of the CITU being held on April 4-8, 2013
in Kannur,
congratulates the working people all over the country and
across the sectors
for magnificently responding to the call of two-day
countrywide general strike
given by united platform of all central trade unions and
employees’ federations
on the ten point demands relating to the burning issues
facing the workers and
the people. The conference also gratefully acknowledges
the all out support given
by the people at large to this united struggle of the
trade unions.
The
conference also hails the trade union movement of the
country for coming
together in the common platform of united action for the
common cause of the
working class and the people to demonstrate unprecedented
unity in the field of
action. It is not merely the unity of the central trade
unions, almost all
major employees’ federations from almost all the sectors
of industries and
services, both in the organised and the unorganised
sectors came together on a
united single platform of struggle which represents all
the sections of working
people in the country. The
conference
pledges to play its frontline role in strengthening and
widening this historic unity
of the trade unions and federations further in the days to
come.
The
conference strongly believes that in view of the mounting
attacks on the lives
and livelihood of the working people flowing out of the
faulty economic
policies being aggressively pursued by the government, the
unity of the working
class must be further broadened and strengthened and the
united struggle of the
trade unions must be further intensified. For defending
the rights and
livelihood of the workers and the people and also for
defending the interests of
national economy, such broader and intensified united
struggles of the working
people must be carried out throughout the length and
breadth of the country
reaching the yet unreached sections of the working people,
both in the
organised and unorganised sectors.
This
14th conference of the CITU notes with great satisfaction
that the all-in unity
of the trade unions has created such enthusiasm among the
working people that
the workers in many establishments where trade unions
could not yet be formed and
workers under many independent and unaffiliated trade
unions have also joined
the last two days general strike in a big way. We must
bring all these sections
of workers into the joint platform of struggle. We have
also to draw the mass
of the people affected by the neo-liberal economic policy
regime in the joint
platform of struggle. That is the need of the hour.
This
conference while expressing gratitude to the leadership of
the fraternal trade
union centres present in the conference for their
solidarity, pledges to work
together in percolating the unprecedented unity achieved
among the entire trade
union movement through the joint struggles into wider
united initiative at the
workplace level throughout the country and thereby further
cementing the unity of
the working people for heightened struggles in the days to
come.
Long
live working class unity! Mazdoor Ekta Zindabad!
