SFI
Protests against the
Murder
of Com Sudipta Gupta
THE Delhi
State committee of
the students’
Federation of India organised a militant protest at Banga
Bhawan on April 4,
2013 against the cold blooded murder of Comrade Sudipta
Gupta, state committee
member of the West Bengal
state committee in
police custody. A large number of protesters marched inside
the premises of the
Banga Bhavan, breaking barricades, as well the locked gates.
Angry protesters
sloganeered inside the building for more than half hour,
after which a public
meeting was organised. Sitaram Yechury, former all India
president of SFI speaking in
the meeting demanded immediate constitution of a judicial
enquiry committee to
look into the matter. This incident was not a one off case
of police brutality,
rather it shows the deterioration of law and order, and the
continuous assault
on democracy and democratic institutions in last two years,
since the Mamata
Banerjee led government came to power in the state. There
have been more than
600 instances of attacks on elected students’ unions and
student activists.
Sunand , CEC member of the SFI also spoke. Delhi
state committee thanked the other
organisations like DYFI, JMS, as well the JNUSU
representatives who were
present there in solidarity.
