Comrade Hugo Chavez

AIPSO Secretariat issued the following statement on March 6, 2013.

The All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation expresses its deep grief at the passing away of Hugo Chavez, president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Hugo Chavez led one of the progressive regimes in Venezuela and symbolised the radical transformations taking place in Latin America. As the president of Venezuela, he always stood by the interests of the poor and people of the developing countries. He never shied away from opposing the war designs of the US. He was committed to world peace and solidarity between people of all the third world countries.

Chavez became a model for many progressive people because of the policies he had pursued in his country. It is during his rein that
Venezuela became the second country in the entire Latin America to eliminate illiteracy. He had ensured proper health care to all the
people of his country. It is because of the economic policies pursued by Chavez that Venezuela was able to withstand the global economic crisis and protect the people from its adverse impact.

The death of Hugo Chavez is a big blow to all the people who are opposed to imperialism and are for world peace. But we are confident that his ideas and the path that he chose for Venezuela will endure. The AIPSO conveys its heartfelt condolences to the daughters and family members of Chavez, to the entire people and government of Venezuela.
