CPI(M) Protests Land
Acquisition for POSCO
Suresh Panigrahi
ON February 4, activists of
the Odisha state unit of the CPI(M) organised a protest demonstration at Jayadev Vihar Square in Bhubaneswar, the state capital, to oppose the
move for land acquisition for the POSCO, by the use of police force, in the Dhinkia
and Gobindpur areas in the district of Jagatsinghpur. They also expressed their
strong condemnation of the police atrocity on the people of these areas.
It is known that the CPI(M)
has been opposing the acquisition of land for the POSCO project in these areas.
The CPI(M) has been demanding a stop to the land acquisition for the POSCO project
and withdrawal of the police force from Dhinkia and Gobindpur areas in order to
restore peace and normalcy there. Another demand is that the government must issue
pattas to all the traditional forest
dwellers of the area for the forest lands under the Forest Rights Act. The
CPI((M) has also asked the state government to respect the people’s sentiments and
that the chief minister should call an all party meeting immediately to find
out the alternative solutions.
