Brutal lathicharge on Protest against Pankti Bheda
Demanding the abolition of Pankti Bheda, a custom where separate seating arrangements are made for Brahmins and non-Brahmins when meals are served at temples, the CPI(M) Karnataka state committee organised a protest at Sri Krishna Math in Udipi district on December 27, 2012. A large number of people, including many women participated in the protest. Police resorted to brutal lathicharge on the protesters. Eight people sustained serious head injuries.
