VS Admits Mistakes

N S Sajith

ON October 18, 2012, V S Achyuthanandhan, leader of opposition in Kerala assembly and a CPI(M) Central Committee member, admitted that it was wrong on his part to visit the home of slain RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan on the very day of the Neyyattinka byelection. At a press conference in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram, he said he also accepted the fault of his stand on the Koodamkulam issue. He termed his stand on this issue as a deviation from the party’s stand.

“I self-critically accept my organisational fault on Koodamkulam issue. And I also accept the disciplinary action taken by the party. The Central Committee has opined that my visit to the home of Chandrasekharan was a mistake. I also admitted my mistakes in the Central Committee and state committee meetings held recently. Party general secretary, Prakash Karat, and Central Committee had also clarified that any of the CPI(M) party workers found guilty in the Chandrasekharan murder case, would face necessary disciplinary action. My comment comparing Pinarayi to S A Dange should have been avoided. This fault has also been accepted in the party’s Central Committee and state committee,” he said.

On the Koodamkulam issue, he accepted that his comments justifying the protest of the people and his incomplete visit to Koodamkulam had ended in a big controversy. The stand of the party was different from my position. The criticism of my position is also justified, he added.
