FISE Holds 20th Congress

 

THE Federation Internationale Syndicale del Enseignement (FISE), an organisation of the teachers and an affiliate of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), organised its 20th congress in Caracas, Venezuela, on September 19 to 21, 2012.

 

As many as 250 delegates from 31 teachers’ unions, representing 24 countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America, North America and the Middle East, participated in the congress. K Rajendran, general secretary of the School Teachers Federation of India (STFI), participated from India.

 

WFTU deputy general secretary Valentin Pacho represented his organisation’s leadership.

 

While the congress voted the Caracas declaration on education, it also adopted the FISE Action Plan for 2012-2013. The newly elected leadership of the FISE leadership has Hassan Ismail (Lebanon) as its president, Orlando Perez (Venezuela) as its general secretary and K Rajendran (India) as one of its vice president.
