THE three Left parties – CPI(M), CPI and Forward Bloc organised two days demonstration and law breaking movement on July 30-31, 2012 in Odisha. On both the days, thousands of cadres and leaders of Left parties, demanding food security, broke the police cordon and were arrested. The procession on both the days started from Bhubaneswar Railway station to Odisha state assembly where rally and demonstration was held.

Suryakanta Mishara, Polit Bureau member of the CPIM) and Basudev Acharya, leader of the CPIM) in Lok Sabha addressed the rally on July 30-31, 2012 respectively. Mishra in his address told that in the name  of food security bill, the central government really wants to create food insecurity. He demanded that the central government should provide 35 kg of rice/wheat to all the families of the country at Rs 2/Kg. Basudev Acharya in his address said that the fertilizer subsidy has been reduced resulting in the rise in its price . While the prices of other inputs for agriculture are increasing, the peasants are denied remunerative price for their products. He told that when the poor people are dying of hunger, food grains are being destroyed as they are kept under the open sky and exported to foreign countries as animal feeds. Suryakanta Mishra and Basudev Acharya urged upon the people to develop a powerful movement to compel the central and state governments to take steps to provide food security to all the people.
