SFI Responds To an Open Letter

The following is the text of the letter written by the Student Federation of India’s all India president P K Biju on July 25, 2012 in response to a public letter addressed to him.

Dear friends,

MY attention has been drawn to a public letter addressed to me expressing dismay over the organisational developments in relation to the SFI unit in JNU. The Delhi state committee of the SFI has dissolved the unit committee and removed the office-bearers for violating SFI’s programme and constitution and not for “expressing political dissent” vis-à-vis a “decision adopted by the CPI(M)”. The action initiated by the Delhi state committee of the SFI on the basis of the democratic procedure as laid down by the constitution of the SFI is directed only against those former functionaries of the SFI, Delhi state committee who were indulging in disruptive activities in blatant violation of the programmatic and constitutional understanding of the SFI.

The members of the SFI in JNU will soon re-elect a new committee to lead SFI there, reinvigorating the Left and democratic student movement in JNU and conducting a democratic discussion in a transparent manner on all issues raised by its members.  Till then an adhoc/organising committee has already been constituted.

I am confident that the SFI in JNU will continue to receive your support and sympathy.
