AIDWA Supports Sania Mirza

ON June 27, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) sent a letter to Ajay Maken, minister of sports in the  government of India, regarding Sania Mirza’s charge of “male chauvinism”’ in the sports regime of the country. The association has urged the sports ministry and the concerned authorities to seriously examine Sania Mirza’s charge of “male chauvinism” and the use of her name as a seasoned woman tennis player as “bait” by the decision makers in the All India Tennis Association (AITA).

The AIDWA said it stood by Sania Mirza as she has chosen to speak out against the insensitivity shown by the concerned authorities and the humiliation of sportswomen.

On behalf of women and sportspersons of this country, the AIDWA has demanded that the ministry must fix the responsibility and take action against those who are the cause of such a sorry state of affairs. The association extended support to the sportswomen of this country who have frequently been at the receiving end of the apathy, indifference and callous approach of the sports authorities.
