SFI Conference Logo Released ON
June 18, the logo of
the coming 14th all-India conference of the Students
Federation of India (SFI)
was released at a press conference organised at the Chennai
Press Club.. Addressing
the journalists on the occasion, the SFI’s all-India general
secretary
Ritabrata Banerjee informed that the 14th all-India
conference of the organisation
was going to be held at According
to the
information Banerjee gave, the conference would start with a
huge public rally
of students on September 4 and the main speaker at the rally
would be Sitaram
Yechury, a former all-India president of the organisation.
The delegates
session would begin on September 5, which is observed as the
Teachers Day, and it
would be inaugurated by eminent economist and former SFI
activist, Professor C
P Chandrasekhar. The
conference manch would
be named after Comrade C Bhaskaran, the SFI’s founder
president, and Comrade
Subhash Chakraborty, a former general secretary. The venue (nagar) would be
named after two martyr
student comrades in Tamilnadu --- Comrade Somasundharam and
Comrade
Chembulingam. The stage of the open rally would be in the
name of six valiant
martyrs of the organisation who sacrificed their lives in
the period since the
last all-India conference of the SFI, viz, Comrades Abhijit,
Partha, Tilak, Swapan,
Bijesh and Anish. No less than 750 delegates and observers,
representing forty
lakhs of student members all over the country, would
participate in the conference. The
central call of the coming
conference would be to intensify struggles against the
commercialisation and centralisation
of education, and for democratic rights and equitable
access. Biman Basu, founder
general secretary of the SFI, would address the conference
on September 6. The
Tamilnadu state
committee of the SFI has taken up a series of programmes for
the period up to
the month of September, in order to carry the message of the
conference to all
students in the state. Campaign programmes regarding the
conference will be
there in all the states. SFI
president P K Biju and
general secretary Ritabrata Banerjee released the logo for
the conference at the
Chennai Press Club. Central secretariat member K S Kanakraj
who is also the president
of the SFI’s Tamilnadu state committee, and Rajmohan,
secretary of the Tamilnadu
state committee, were also present at the logo release
function.
