SFI Protests Kerala Lathicharge

THROUGH a statement issued from New Delhi on June 20, the Central Executive Committee (CECO of the Students Federation of India (SFI) has strongly protested the brutal police lathicharge in Thiruvananthapuram, on students who were on a peaceful protest demanding the arrest of the culprits behind the murder of Comrade Aneesh Rajan who was the vice president of the SFI’s Idukki district committee.

In the lathicharge, tear gas shells and grenades were used and  many students including SFI state secretary and its all-India joint secretary P Biju, state vice president A A Rahim and state committee member Atheena Satheesh were injured and admitted in different hospitals. About 50 students including girls were taken to the Nandavanam police camp and brutally beaten up. Police officers even delayed medical treatment for badly injured students. More than fifty grenades were used inside the University College campus, Thiruvananthapuram.

The murderers of Aneesh Rajan are being protected by the Government in Kerala. Only two goons have been arrested so far. The UDF government is giving all possible assistance to these goons.

The SFI CEC statement, issued by its president P K Biju and general secretary Ritabrata Banerjee, called upon all units of the SFI to observe a protest day on June 21 against this heinous attack on students in Kerala. It also demanded that the UDF government in Kerala must arrest all the culprits associated with the murder of Aneesh Rajan.
