CITU Condemns Jammu Firing

MEETING at Jammu on May 31, 2012, the Jammu & Kashmir state secretariat of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) condemned the firing resorted to by the state police on a peaceful meeting along a four-lane road. Here the tunnel workers of Chaneni were demanding reinstatement in service of two workmen who were illegally terminated by the management of the company.

After the management of the company illegally terminated the services of these two workmen without giving them any notice whatsoever, their union repeatedly appealed to the management reinstate the services of these workmen, but it all was in vain due to the adamant attitude of the management. At last, therefore, the union had had no alternative but to organise protest against the management in a peaceful manner.

The CITU’s state secretariat demanded that the management should immediately come to the negotiating table and start talks with representatives of the union in order to resolve the grievances of the workmen and thereby maintain normal industrial relations at the workplace. The CITU further demanded stern action against the erring police officials for having fired on the peaceful gathering.

State CITU  general secretary Om Parkash, Sham Prasad Kesar, Romesh Chand and Jagdish Raj Sharma, among others, attended the CITU state secretariat meeting.
