Ferry Accident in Assam

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on May 1, 2012

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its shock and sorrow at the large number of deaths in the ferry accident in the Brahmaputra in Dhubri district. It is feared that more than a hundred people have died.  The ferry accident, coming in the wake of similar incidents earlier, highlights the lack of safety regulations being observed in the ferries plying in the Brahmaputra.  Steps should be taken immediately to ensure that all safety measures on the passenger boats are implemented. 

The state government should provide adequate compensation and relief to the families of those deceased.

The Polit Bureau conveys its  heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their family members in the tragedy.
