Comrade N Varadarajan

 

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on April 11, 2012.

 

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) deeply mourns the passing away of Comrade N Varadarajan, veteran leader of the Party and former member of the Central Committee. He died the day after the 20th Congress of the Party, which he attended despite his ill health.

 

N Varadarajan began his life as a mill worker and rose to be one of the prominent leaders of the Communist Party in Tamilnadu. He made a big contribution to the working class movement. As secretary of the Tamilnadu state committee of the Party from 2002 to 2010, he worked diligently to build the Party.

 

Elected thrice as a member of the state legislative assembly, he effectively used the parliamentary forum to raise the demands of the working people.

He was a member of the Central Committee from 1995 till the 20th Congress this year.

 

N Varadarajan served the Communist Party with total dedication for nearly seven decades. In his death, the Communist movement has lost a leader whose integrity and commitment was respected by all.

 

The Polit Bureau conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife, sons and other family members.
