CPI(M) Greets CP Israel

The following is the message of greetings sent by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the 26th Congress of the Communist Party of Israel on March 13. The Congress was held on March 15-17, 2012.

Dear Comrades,

ON behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), we greet the 26th Congress of the Communist Party of Israel (CPI) and wish it all success and through you greet all the members of the party. We are extremely thankful to the CPI for inviting us to the party Congress. But unfortunately, we are unable to attend the Congress, as the 20th Congress of our party is due in the first week of April.

The 26th Congress of the CPI is taking place at an extremely crucial period. For the past four years, the world is reeling under acute recession from the global economic crisis. The ruling classes tried in vain to come out of the crisis by bailing out the financial institutions that had caused the crisis in the first place, using tax payers money. What had in fact started as corporate insolvency had now turned into full blown sovereign insolvency, with countries like Greece facing the severest brunt. The economic crisis has once again exposed the limits of the exploitative capitalist system.

Imperialism is trying to come out of this economic crisis by using all the means – political, economic and military – at its disposal. The recent brazen military intervention in Libya, efforts to destabilise Syria and Iran are part of its efforts to maintain its hegemonic grip over the resource rich region. On the other hand, imperialism is trying to prise open the markets of the developing countries using the Bretton Woods institutions, IMF, World Bank, and the WTO for this purpose. It wants to shift the burdens of the economic crisis onto the shoulders of the working people throughout the world.

The living conditions of the people across the world took a severe beating due to the global economic crisis. Unemployment, poverty, income inequalities, hunger, industrial closures had increased. There is a severe attack on the hard won rights of the working class – retirement ages increased, pensions cut and wages frozen. The heartening feature in this gloomy scenario is that working class is coming out in huge numbers protesting these attacks. The recent struggles throughout Europe, the US and in the Arab world are all a result of this rising discontent among the people. Another welcome feature is that for the first time after many years, the system – capitalism – is being questioned in the West.

Israel too had witnessed lots of protest demonstrations in this period. We are inspired by the huge protest demonstrations that had taken place in your country. Functioning in such a society as that exists in Israel with constant war, continuing social conflict amongst the Arabs and the Jews and a strict surveillance by the State, Israeli communists are courageously and heroically carrying forward the struggle for peace, justice and progress in the region.

The ruling classes across the world are trying to quell the rising protests and the growing influence of communist parties. The increasing attacks on the protest demonstrations, communist parties and the brazen anti-communist propaganda unleashed, indicate the uneasiness of the ruling classes. They are also encouraging all sorts of divisive tendencies among the people to break the unity of the working class and toiling people. All fundamentalist movements are reactionary movements which use religion as a political weapon. These movements isolate the populations they work in, damage the struggle for democracy and equality, and hinder social progress. The communist parties should be conscious of these dangers and strive to safeguard the unity of the working class in particular and the people at large.

Dear Comrades,

Within a few days, the CPI (M) would be holding its 20th Congress (from April 4-9) in Kerala. We too would be reviewing the period since our last Congress held in 2008 and formulating tactics for the strengthening of our party in the coming days. Apart from the political resolution, we would also be discussing a document on certain ideological issues in the Congress, which we feel would help in enriching our understanding of the capitalist system under imperialist globalisation and our way forward for an exploitation-free socialist society. We will certainly keep you informed about our deliberations and hope to learn from your experiences that you would be discussing in this Congress.

Comrades,

We once again wish your Congress all success and take this opportunity to reiterate our fraternal solidarity.
