Yechury Visits UK, US to Deliver Lectures

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury will be visiting the UK and US to deliver a series of lectures from November 1-8, 2011.

Yechury was invited by the Cambridge University to deliver Rajni Palme Dutt memorial lecture on November 1, 2011 in the Perse college in which Rajni Palme Dutt had studied. Phil Katz, Fellow of Royal Society of Arts and Fellow, Chartered Society of Designers, is coordinating the programme on behalf of the college.

R P Dutt, as he was called, is one of the prominent British communists who had made a significant contribution to the growth of the Communist movement in India in its initial stages and also to the fight against British colonial rule. His book India Today is still regarded as the most authoritative work in its exposure of colonialism and the loot of colonial India. The memorial lecture at the Perse College is in honour of its illustrious alumni. On the evening of the same day, the Cambridge University Communist Society is organising a public meeting on 'Challenging Imperialism'.

Yechury will be in San Francisco, US from November 3-6 upon the invitation of the Stanford University. There, he will be participating in the seminar organised by Centre for South Asian Studies of the University. He will be participating in a panel discussion with the students on the 3rd on Corruption and Governance in India, addressing a session on Governance and Accountability on the 4th and delivering a luncheon address on the 5th on Economic Reforms and Indian Experience. Before returning on November 6th he will be meeting the Indian community residing in the US.
