Madhu Bag
VETERAN
Communist leader of West Bengal Comrade
Madhu Bag breathed his last on September 26. He was 84. Former member
of the
CPI(M)
Comrade
Bag joined the Party in 1951. He was a
good singer in his youth and used this skill to attract people by
singing folk
songs. Gradually he became one of the leading organisers of the peasant
movement in Murshidabad district. He became the district secretary of
Kisan
Sabha. He led many militant struggles in Murshidabad which became a
stronghold
of peasant movement. In 1965, Comrade Bag was arrested and kept in jail
for
more than one and half years. Comrade Bag was attacked several times
during
semi-fascist terror in the 1970s. He took responsibility of the CPI(M)
district
secretary in 1980 which he continued upto 2005 . He was elected to the
state
committte in 1981 and continued upto 2008. Later, he became a special
invitee to
the state committee till his death.
Comrade
Madhu Bag had endearing personality and
lived a spartan life. He was a dedicated communist and an accepted
leader of
the masses. Biman Basu and Buddhadeb Bhattacharya deeply mourned
Comrade Bag’s
demise.
