 CPI(M) Protests Attack

On Democratic Rights

The following is the statement issued by the CPI(M) Delhi state committee on August 17, 2011

HUNDREDS of CPI (M) activists including many women marched from V P House to Parliament through Rafi Marg and Red Cross Marg on August 17, 2011. They were protesting against attack on the democratic rights of the people by the UPA government as was witnessed by the ban on Anna Hazare’s protest and hunger strike and his arrest yesterday.

The protesters shouted slogans against the UPA government and the attacks on democratic rights. Protesters also broke two barricades erected by the police and reached the main gate of parliament, where they sat on the road. They were arrested and detained in Parliament Street police station and later released.

The CPI(M) warns the UPA government that attacks on the democratic rights of the people will not be tolerated. Protests against anti people actions and policies of the government will continue. The CPI(M), Delhi state committee calls upon its local units to organise such protests in different areas in the state.
