Message of Greetings to CP Ukraine, 44th Congress

The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) sent, on June 16, 2011, the following message of greetings to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine on the 44th congress of the latter.

ON behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), we convey our warm fraternal greetings to the 44th congress of the Communist Party of Ukraine. We wish your congress all success and are confident that it would be truly historic.

Comrades,

Your congress is taking place at a crucial time, amidst many momentous developments taking place the world over. In many countries, people are resisting the attempts of the ruling classes to transfer the burdens of the crisis on to their shoulders. According to reports, it appears that the US is headed for another year of recession, contrary to expectations of economic revival. The current global economic crisis, most profound since the Great Depression of the 1930s, has once again exposed the severe limitations of the capitalist system. Imperialism is trying all the means at its disposal – economic, political and military – to ensure its dominance over the world.

On the other hand, people in West Asia are coming out onto the streets, in unprecedented numbers, against their dictatorial rulers, demanding an end to their economic hardships and imperialist intervention in their sovereign affairs. The rulers of Tunisia and Egypt were forced to cede power. Similar protest demonstrations are being witnessed in Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Algeria. In a yet another glaring instance of imperialist military intervention, the US led NATO forces have used the protest demonstrations as a pretext to bombard Libya and kill hundreds of civilians. They are flexing their military muscle to retain control over this resource-rich region. The US, both due to the current economic crisis and also the developments in the Middle East, is gradually witnessing an erosion in its influence.

Dear Comrades,

In India, the ruling classes, bowing to the pressures exerted by imperialism, are trying to further liberalise its economy and open it to predatory finance capital. Rising prices, corruption resulting in the loot of millions of dollars of public money, have become the order of the day. There is a growing discontent among the people of our country against the policies of the ruling, Congress led, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) coalition government.

As you might be aware, the Left has suffered a setback in the recently held elections to the legislative assemblies in five provinces – two of which were earlier governed by the CPI(M) led Left coalitions. We have initiated the process of a thorough review of this loss and are trying to overcome it by intensifying our struggle for the rights of the people and against the attacks on their livelihoods. This victory over the Left forces, achieved by an opportunistic unity of all the opposition forces, ranging from the extreme right religious fundamentalists to the extreme Left, has emboldened the ruling classes to launch intensified attack on our party. Physical attacks are being carried out on our comrades and party offices; more than 20 comrades were killed and several more injured. The party is resisting these attempts to marginalise and isolate it by maintaining organic link with the people and mobilising all the democratic, progressive and Left forces in the country.

Dear Comrades,

The Central Committee of the CPI(M) is fully confident that the discussions and the resolutions you adopt in your 44th congress would come out with a correct strategy to lead the people of Ukraine during these difficult times. We take this opportunity to once again reiterate our fraternal solidarity with the Communist Party of Ukraine and hope that the bonds of friendship and solidarity will get further strengthened in the coming days.

Once again, we wish your congress all the success.

Long Live Marxism-Leninism!
