CPI(M) Greets Sixth Congress of CP Cuba

The following is the message of greetings sent by  the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba on the occasion of its 6th congress held from April 16-19, 2011 in Havana.

Dear Comrades,

On behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) we convey our warm fraternal greetings to the 6th congress of the Communist Party of Cuba. We believe that your congress will be a significant milestone in the history of your country.

Comrades,

We are closely following your congress taking place at a crucial time in the world history. Imperialist hegemony is facing a serious challenge world over. It is trying to come out of one of the most severe global economic crisis by shifting the burdens on to the shoulders of the working class and the peoples of the developing, third world countries. In this endeavour, it is putting to use all the means available at its disposal – military, economic and political. The imperialist military intervention in Libya is the latest example of its aggression to control the rich resources of the region. The most heartening feature however, is the resistance that is building up across the world. Workers, peasants and other toiling sections are joined by other sections of the society in their struggle to resist the attacks on their livelihoods.

In this background, your congress assumes even greater importance and the developments taking place in Socialist Cuba attract wider attention. Cuba is an inspiration to the people of the world because of exemplary achievements you have achieved in your country, particularly in the face of the criminal economic blockade imposed by US led imperialism. The achievements of your country, specially in the field of social sectors – health, education and promotion of universal humanitarian values – stand tall, shaming many developed capitalist countries.

We have been following with immense interest the discussion that your party had initiated on the 'Draft Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and the Revolution'. We are confident that these wide ranging discussions on the document would lead to the further strengthening of the socialist system.

Comrades,

In India, we are in the midst of elections to five important states for electing their legislative assemblies. Of these, our Party is heading the government in two states – West Bengal and Kerala. The ruling classes in the country have launched an all out offensive against our Party and the Left forces in these elections. The party is thick in the fight not only resisting all these efforts intended to isolate our Party but also in defence of the rights of the toiling people.

Dear Comrades,

On this occasion, the Central committee of the CPI(M) reiterates our fraternal solidarity with the Communist Party of Cuba and hopes that the ties of friendship between the two parties would get further strengthened. We reiterate our opposition towards the inhuman economic blockade imposed on Cuba and join our voice in demanding the release of the Five Cuban Heroes who are unjustly imprisoned in the US.

The Central Committee of the CPI(M) is fully confident that the discussions and the resolutions you adopt in your 6th congress would lead to the further strengthening and consolidation of socialism in your country. We are also confident that this congress would go a long way in the building of a happy and prosperous Cuba.

Once again, we wish your congress all the success.

Long live Marxism-Leninism

Long live Socialism
