Prof Suraj Bhan Passes Away

 

 

A renowned historian and an eminent academician Dr Suraj Bhan (80) passed away on July 14, 2010. Dr Suraj Bhan was suffering from brain tumor for which he underwent neurosurgery in New Delhi a few months ago. After his formal retirement from Kurukshetra University he settled at Rohtak. He was known for his outstanding contribution in bringing out the role of common people and secular traditions in Indian history. He played an important role in the struggle against the communal forces’ Ayodhya campaign and the efforts to rewrite Indian history on communal lines

 

Inspite of his retirement, he was closely and actively associated with ICHR, archaeology and science movement in Haryana. Being a crusader in the field of radical social reform movement in Haryana, Prof Suraj Bhan was a leading figure in several social organisations.

 

A large number of people from all walks of life rushed to his residence on knowing of his sad demise. Leaders of mass organisations, social organisations and distinguished citizens as well as ordinary villagers paid their last respects to Dr Suraj Bhan and joined in the huge funeral procession.

 

A condolence meeting will be held at Rohtak on July 25 at his residence.
