Left Leaders
Arrested
for
Taking out
Peace Rally
LEADERS of
eleven Left parties, including of
CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML), were arrested in Hyderabad
on April 3 while trying to take out a peace rally in the context of
communal
violence in the old city. Among those arrested included CPI(M) state
secretary
B V Raghavulu and CPI deputy general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy. As the
leaders
and activists of the Left parties resisted the arrest, a tense
atmosphere was
created near Sundarayya Vignana Kendram.
Raghavulu
condemned the police action and
demanded how they allowed provocative processions but stopped those
which
sought establishment of peace. He held the state government squarely
responsible for the violence in Hyderabad.
He criticised the total failure of intelligence and police machinery in
anticipating and preventing the violence. He attacked it for failing to
supply
essential commodities to the people in curfew imposed areas and
demanded that
the government must supply these free of cost to the people in old city.
