THE four Left parties, viz the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, All India Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party, have decided to organise an all-India rally at the Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on March 12, 2010.

According to a press statement these parties jointly issued from New Delhi on February 8, the purpose of organising the rally is to highlight the urgent problems faced by the people and to spell out the Left parties demands to solve the problems.

Signatories to the said press statement are Prakash Karat, A B Bardhan, Debabrata Biswas  and T J Chandrachoodan, general secretaries of the CPI(M), CPI, AIFB and RSP respectively.

The most pressing demands which the Left parties would focus upon are the following:

1) Halt to the price rise of food items and essential commodities. Strengthen the public distribution system (PDS) and take measures to help farmers to produce more foodgrains.

2) Implementation of the land reform measures and protection of the land of the peasants and the tribal people.

3) Provision of jobs for all. Urgent measures to curb unemployment.

4) End to the violence being unleashed against the Left in West Bengal by the Trinamul Congress-Maoist combine. Defence of the democratic rights.

The statement also contained the details of the measures proposed by the Left parties to solve these problems.

The rally is expected to give a call for action in order to get these demands realised. The Left parties have made an appeal to all sections of the people to make the proposed rally a big success.
