Condolence Message from C P Vietnam

WE are deeply shocked at the passing away of Comrade Jyoti Basu, after long illness, on January 17, 2010, at the age of 95.

Comrade Jyoti Basu was a great patriot and statesman, an outstanding veteran leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), who persistently struggled for democracy, people�s livelihood and the development of the communist movement in West Bengal in particular and in India in general.

In his lifetime, Comrade Jyoti Basu always extended fine sentiments toward the Vietnamese people, and ceaselessly cultivated and nurtured the traditional relations of solidarity, friendship and cooperation between our two parties and peoples of Vietnam and India. His demise is a big loss for the Indian communists and his family; we have lost a close friend.

On behalf of the Vietnamese communists and people, we would like to convey to you and through you, to the bereaved family of Comrade Jyoti Basu, our deepest condolences.
