SFI Condemns Racist Oz Attacks

IN a statement issued from New Delhi on January 11, the central executive committee (CEC) of the Students Federation of India (SFI) has expressed shock and concern over the attacks taking place on Indian citizens in Australia. In spite of repeated assurances from the Australian government that it would not tolerate racial violence, the CEC noted that the attacks on Indian citizens are still continuing. In this connection, the statement noted an incident of racial attack in which an Indian youth was attacked and set alight by a gang in Melbourne. It came a week after an Indian student was stabbed to death in the city.

Condemning these brutal attacks by the racist groups in Australia, the SFI CEC expressed the hope that Australian authorities would immediately nab the culprits responsible for such heinous crimes and put an end to the same. While condemning the barbaric acts of violence perpetrated by racist outfits in Australia, the CEC of SFI also demanded that the government of India put in a serious effort to ensure the safety of Indian citizens in Australia.
