AIKS Condemns Comrade
Shakti Deys Murder
THROUGH a press statement
issued from New Delhi by its president S
Ramachandran Pillai and general secretary K Varadha Rajan on October 10, the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS)
has condemned the cruel and dastardly murder of Comrade Shakti
Dey, member
of the Chhattisgarh state kisan council (AIKS) and Kanker district
committee member
of the CPI(M), by Maoist killers. He was killed at his residence the
previous evening
by about a dozen armed Maoists. The killers knocked on his door and
shot him
point blank in front of his family members. He had been receiving
threats from
the Maoists for some time now, for working among the tribals, landless
and poor
peasants.
The statement recalled how Comrade Shakti Dey
has long
been working arduously for the cause of the agricultural workers and
poor
peasantry and how popular he was among the tribal people in Kanker
district and
Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. It described Comrade Deys death as a
big loss
to the democratic movement.
The AIKS has demanded immediate apprehension
of the
Maoist murderers and called upon the people to isolate the forces
representing
the politics of murder. It has extended condolences to and expressed
solidarity
with Comrade Deys wife and family members.
