 CPI(M), CPI Issue First List

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the Communist Party of India have decided to jointly contest several seats of the Haryana state assembly, whose elections are scheduled to take place on October 13. In this context, the state committees of both parties issued the first list of their candidates from Rohtak on September 12. Out of the 19 candidates declared in this list, 11 belong to the CPI(M) and 8 to the CPI.

CPI(M) state secretary Inderjit Singh and his CPI counterpart Daryav Singh Kashyap made this announcement on the day while jointly addressing a press conference.

Contesting the tall claims made by the Congress government of Haryana, the two leaders said the living standard of an overwhelming majority of the people has suffered serious erosions, and that only a small section of the rich have benefited from the neo-liberal policies the central and the state governments are following. The communist leaders accused the Congress state government that its policies during the last four and a half years have led to an increase in landlessness, unemployment and crimes in the state, and that the government has failed to provide to the people a rule based on laws. The two leaders said though the Congress contested the last Lok Sabha polls in the name of the common man, the UPA government has, since it was formed, given big concessions and gifts to the corporate sector while attacking the livelihood and dignity of the mass of toiling people. The sky rocketing prices in the first 100 days of the Congress-led UPA rule have severely hit the poorer sections and the middle classes.

The Left leaders emphatically said that the BJP and the parties allying with it cannot provide an alternative to the Congress rule, and they too pursue the same set of policies. They regretted that non-Congress and non-BJP parties are not exhibiting any sense of political responsibility, adding that the Left parties do not see any possibility of an alliance with these parties because of the basic differences in policies.

The CPI(M) and the CPI have announced that soon they would issue a joint appeal to the people of Haryana, declaring the commitment of these parties on the economic, political and socio-cultural issues facing the state.

The Left leaders informed that their cadres have started an energetic poll campaign in the constituencies where the names of their candidates have been announced. They have appealed to the people of Haryana to ensure the victory of the CPI(M) and CPI candidates for the sake of taking forward the struggle for a pro-people change in policies and for an all-inclusive development of the state.
