IN view of
relentless high
prices of essential commodities, there is an urgent requirement for a
Right to
Food legislation. However the government proposal, if accepted in its
present
form will lead to food insecurity and not food security. The CPI(M) is
organising
a Right to Food convention as part of its struggle to ensure a
pro-people
legislation and change in related government policies.
Several
organisations and reputed economists would be participating. The
inaugural session
would be attended by Manik Sarkar (chief minister, Tripura) Jayati
Ghosh and Madhura Swaminathan.
