Prakash Karat�s Condolence Message

Condolence Message from Prakash Karat, general secretary of the CPI(M).

I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing away of Comrade Subhas Chakrabarti. Though he was in ill health, nobody had expected this sudden demise. Comrade Subhas Chakrabarti was a leader who worked among the people tenaciously and drew them towards the Party. His contributions in the student movement and the trade union movement were considerable. As a minister in the Left Front government for more than 25 years, he served the people. I was associated with Comrade Subhas
Chakrabarti in the student movement from the early 1970s. He was the general secretary of the SFI at a time when I was the president. I know the heroic role he played during the period of the semi-fascist terror and the emergency.

I pay tribute to his memory and convey my deep sympathy to his wife Ramala Chakrabarty and his son.

A number of mass organisations have also condoled the demise of Comrade Subhas Chakraborty.
