ANY solution to the present crisis in Nepal must be found within the democratic framework of that country, said CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury.
Responding to media queries on the recent developments in Nepal, Yechury said in Kolkata on May 4, 2009 said that all the political parties in Nepal should try to resolve the problems through consultation and dialogue. He also underlined that since it is the internal affair of Nepal, they should be allowed to resolve it on their own without any external interference.
Reminding that the election of the present government in Nepal was to form a constituent assembly and draft a Constitution, Yechury felt that government should have been formed on the basis of a national consensus with the participation of all political parties.
Later speaking to newspersons in New Delhi the next day, Yechury further said that once the new Constitution is adopted by the constituent assembly, fresh elections should take place to determine the political leadership of Nepal.
He added that democracy in Nepal has been established after a long struggle and it is an outcome of the heroic struggle of the people of Nepal. In a nascent democracy like this, many hiccups can develop, which is not unnatural. But there should not be any interference from outside. The resolution of the crisis should be done by the people of Nepal themselves only.
