2009 Polls Will End Two Party System

THIS Lok Sabha election will see the exit of two party system and the emergence of the third force as a viable alternative. It will also witness the sharing of power by dalits, minorities, working classes and other downtrodden sections of the society, said Manik Sarkar, chief minister of Tripura and Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Addressing an election meeting in Madurai on May 5, 2009 in support of CPI(M) candidate P Mohan, Sarkar said that during this election an important slogan has emerged and it is making waves across the nation "Installation of a non-Congress and non-BJP government at the centre."

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance is a sinking ship whose base is eroding day-by-day and would be routed in the elections. Stating that democracy provided space for competing ideologies but not for "terrorising" the opposition using muscle and money power, the Tripura chief minister said that the national media has taken note of the shameful incidents happening in Madurai and is acting as a gatekeeper, keeping democracy alive.

The pertinent question in this election would be who is going to frame the policies. The Congress-led UPA government has failed on the economic front and its policies resulted in price rise, job cuts and unemployment of an unseen nature. Indias foreign policy has been compromised at the behest of imperialist United States and the credit for this goes to prime minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. All the regional parties, which stood by the Congress and BJP, had deserted them in these elections.

Manik Sarkar appealed to the people of Madurai to vote and elect the CPI(M) candidate, P Mohan and make possible the victory of democracy against money and muscle power of the DMK in the state.
