CC Appeals For Election Campaign Funds

THE 15th Lok Sabha elections have been announced. The elections are being held after five years of the Congress-led UPA government. The CPI(M) and the Left parties played an important role in ensuring the formation of a secular government at the centre after the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.

For four years, the CPI(M) and the Left pushed the government to implement some of its commitments to the people made in the Common Minimum Programme. At the same time, the party was firm in opposing all measures which adversely affected the people and eroded national sovereignty. The CPI(M) has been a consistent force in opposing all forms of communalism and protecting the rights of the minorities.

The CPI(M) and the Left broke with the UPA government after it pursued a strategic alliance with the United States and signed the Indo-US nuclear deal. Since then, the CPI(M) has been working to strengthen the Left platform and to gather the non-Congress, non-BJP forces to present an electoral alternative before the people.

It is important that the CPI(M), as the biggest Left party emerges, successful in the Lok Sabha polls. The CPI(M) will be contesting around 80 seats in the elections.

In the recent period, there has been a huge increase in the use of money power by the bourgeois parties. Unlike them, the CPI(M) relies on its organisation and popular support to contest the elections. For this, it requires to raise resources which can be effectively utilised in the election campaign.

The Central Committee has decided that all party units should go amongst the people to raise funds for the election campaign. We appeal to all democratic sections of the people, friends and well-wishers to contribute to the Central Election Fund of the party.

Cheques/drafts sent to the Central Committee should be in the name of Communist Party of India (Marxist) and sent to:
