Corrupt BJP MLA  Must Resign: CPI(M)

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) Karnataka state secretariat has demanded that the BJP MLA from Kolar Gold Fields, Y Sampangi, who was caught red-handed by Lokayukta while accepting a bribe, must resign immediately. If the MLA does not resign voluntarily then the speaker of the assembly must initiate an enquiry and remove him from the house.

In a statement issued on January 29, 2009, CPI(M) state secretariat member G N Nagaraj pointed out that the arrest has exposed the culture of the BJP, which had the sole aim of coming to power by hook or by crook. Therefore the party had selected anti-socials and persons involved in immoral activities as its candidates during the elections. The BJP, which came to power spending crores of rupees from the mining lobby and others, has allowed its members to make money by whatever means. Therefore this MLA of the disciplined party was caught by Lokayukta accepting a bribe in legislature house itself. It only shows that under BJP rule, its MLAs can do anything.

In this connection, it was recalled that 9 MPs belonging to BJP had lost their seats for accepting bribes to raise questions in Lok Sabha and one of its MP was caught taking a woman to Canada in his wifes name. The CPI(M) has also condemned the unruly behaviour of some of the BJP MLAs who barged into Lokayukta office. BJP is desperate over the arrest of its MLA. Lokayukta is an independent body who should be allowed to function within the framework of the law. The BJP must take immediate action against its unruly members.
