AIKS Condemns Firing On UP Farmers
THE All India Kisan Sabha strongly condemned the brutal police firing and repression let loose on farmers in Mathura, UP, who were demanding adequate compensation for their lands acquired for Taj Expressway project. It is reported that two have been killed and a number of them injured in police firing and lathicharges.
AIKS joint secretary N K Shukla in a statement issued on January 21, 2009 demanded from the Uttar Pradesh state government to concede the genuine demands of the agitating farmers, talk to them and settle the issue amicably. The compensation must be at least at par with what has been paid to farmers in the Noida region, felt the AIKS leader. The organisation has also sought stern action against the civil and police officials responsible for the police firing and lathicharge and that the families of those killed and injured must be adequately compensated.
