True Lies
FC examined the change in the shareholding pattern of Satyam Computer Services from 2001 to figure out how the Raju brothers had enriched themselves by inflating results quarter after quarter. Back-of-the-envelope calculations suggest that shares held under the category of Indian promoters had been continuously depleting since June 2001 till June 2006.
The table shows the numbers of shares held in the category of Indian promoters. They also clearly reflect that promoter stake as a percentage of total shareholding has not only been coming down, but also the absolute number of shres held by them have been declining. This nails the lies of B Ramalinga Raju, erstwhile chairman of Satyam, that they did not sell a single share of the company in the past eight years.
