Fidel�s Photos Greet Kolkatans


THIRTY-FIVE still black-and-white photographs of el Commandante Fidel Castro were put out on display at the Kolkata film centre, Nandan on December 26, 2008. The photos show the series of gestures and actions of the revolutionary leader as he spoke before a rally at the Kolkata airport 35 years ago on December 26, 1973.


The inauguration of this was exhibition was attended by among others Polit Bureau members of the CPI(M) Sitaram Yechury, Biman Basu, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and others. The Cuban embassy co-hosted the exhibition; Fidel came to Kolkata en route to Havana from Hanoi. Fidel was met at the airport by the late CPI(M) stalwart Promode Dasgupta, and by various Left leadership. Fidel had ended his speech at the airport rally with the words �workers of the world, unite!�
