Chinese Delegation Visits AKG Bhavan



A six-member Chinese delegation led by He Jun, vice-president of the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmament, paid a goodwill visit to the headquarters of the Party, AKG Bhavan in New Delhi on December 17, 2008. They interacted with Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member of the CPI(M) and the Head of the international department. Hari Singh Kang, Central Secretariat member and R Arun Kumar, member, International Department of CPI(M) were also present in this meeting.


The delegation had an hour long meeting with the leadership of the CPI(M) and discussed various issues pertaining to the development of people-to-people contacts and friendship between the two countries.


Yechury suggested that more people-to-people contacts between the two countries has to be encouraged along with the strengthening of the historic cultural ties that date back to many centuries. In this context, he mentioned the support given by the Chinese government along with other South Asian countries for the development of one of the oldest and prestigious centres of ancient learning- the Nalanda university. He also stated that in the current period of economic crisis, it would be mutually beneficial for the two countries to co-operate and improve bilateral trade ties.


Recalling his recent visit to China, Yechury lauded the efforts of the Chinese government and the Communist Party of China in providing relief and rehabilitating the people affected by one of the most devastating earthquakes witnessed in the recent times.


He Jun thanked Yechury and reiterated the mutually held views on the development of friendship between the two most populous countries in the world.


He Jun was leading the delegation that had come to India to take part in the eighth Congress of the Afro Asian Peoples� Solidarity Organisation.
