People's Doctor Sesha Reddy Is No More

COMRADE Dr J Sesha Reddy passed away on  June 13, 2008. Born on March 10, 1930, he chose Communist politics and became active in student movement under the influence of Dr P Ramachandra Reddy (brother of Comrade P Sundarayya) and Comrade P Sundarayya himself. After completion of Medicine course, he joined Praja Vaidyasala (People's Hospital), founded by Dr Ramachandra Reddy. After his demise, Dr Sesha Reddy became the secretary of the trust and dedicated his entire life to bring health care within the reach of people. His tireless efforts and dedication to the poor saw the expansion of the hospital, which began with two-three doctors and a staff of less than ten people,  into a big hospital with 250 beds, 32 permanent doctors, 14 junior doctors and 230 staff members.

Dr Sesha Reddy was a committed Party worker besides a dedicated doctor. During the Indo-China border dispute he was imprisoned in the Rajahmundry central jail for two years from 1964-66. He was one of the founder members of the Jana Vignana Vedika, the People's Science Movement. He was an inspiration behind the anti-arrack movement and literacy movement in the state. Dr Sesha Reddy was also the president of state units of Anti-War Committee, Progressive Platform and People For India. He was one of the founder members of the Red Cross Blood Bank and Cancer Hospital. Dr Sesha Reddy also worked as the president of Indian Medical Association. Recently he attended the 19th Party Congress held in Coimbatore.

Dr Sesha Reddy dedicated his entire life for the propagation of socialist ideas and for the establishment of socialism in India. He made great efforts to develop the Dr Ramachandra Reddy Praja Vaidyasala, the People's hospital in its true sense.
