On Solidarity With Cuba

Resolution Adopted at the XIX Congress

THIS XIX Congress of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the relentless efforts by US imperialism to destabilise socialist Cuba. The 19th Congress of the CPI(M) hails the continuity of the Revolution with the election of the new leadership of the Cuban Party and State which nailed all the hopes of US imperialism to utilise the situation to destabilise Cuba.

The US occupation of the Guantanamo Bay and the inhuman torture and brazen violation of the human rights of the prisoners detained there have once again exposed the true face of US imperialism.

Right from the 1959 revolution, which the US has tried to undermine and overturn, anti-Cuba groups have staged innumerable terrorist attacks from Florida, including the bombing of a civilian Cuban plane with 73 innocent people on board, actively aided by the CIA. Many US presidents have approved some 600 assassination attempts against Fidel Castro and other Cuban leaders, including attempts at direct aggression, like the 1961 CIA-backed Bay of Pigs invasion which was fought back by the Cuban people in a glorious resistance.

On the tenth anniversary of the arrest of the five Cuban patriots whose efforts have exposed such murderous groups functioning in the USA -- Fernando Gonzalez, Llort Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, Ramon Labanino Salazar, Rene Gonzalez Sehwerert and Antonio Guerrero Rodriguez -- the 19th Congress of the CPI(M) demands their immediate release. The Five Cubans had entered the US to counter the Cuban-American terrorist groups. The US administrations charges against the Cuban Five are clearly politically motivated and cannot stand up in a proper court of law.

The US continues to make use of the Helms-Burton Act to deepen the blockade of Cuba, designed to isolate and cripple the country economically, politically and technologically, despite the fact that 185 of the 192 member countries of the UN have voted to end the criminal economic sanctions against Cuba. The CPI(M) supports the international campaign to end the US blockade against Cuba.

The XIX Congress of the CPI(M) salutes the valiant efforts of the Cuban people and the strength of the Socialist system that have not only foiled the hostile maneouvres of US imperialism, but also ensured impressive social, economic and technological progress in Cuba and reaffirms its solidarity with them.
