Congress MP Arrested On Charge Of Murdering A CPI(M) Leader

ADHIRRANJAN (‘Adhir’) Chaudhury, a sitting Congress MP from Berhampore in Murshidabad was recently arrested and sent to 14 days’ police custody. The charge is his conspiring to bring about the brutal killing of Comrade Gobardhan Ash of the CPI(M) at Ketugram in Burdwan. Adhir Chaudhury is already facing trial on a case of double murder in Murshidabad. He had been evading the making of a personal appearance hitherto in court on a plea of ‘illness.’

DASTARDLY KILLING

Back in September 2003, Congress goons attacked Comrade Gobardhan at Ketugram and hacked him to death. Comrade Gobardhan Ash was an elected member of the Mougram Gram Panchayat. On arresting the two principal accused, the police came to know that Adhir Chaudhury was the main conspirator behind the dastardly killing. The two who are accused of physically committing the murder allegedly found a cosy shelter in the Murshidabad residence of Adhir Chaudhury.

Of the 14 Congress men and their mates mentioned in the charge sheet that was subsequently formed at the end of what appeared to have been a long police enquiry, the name of Adhir Chaudhury, MP, featured prominently. Adhir Chaudhury is due to make an appearance before the Katwa court on October 5. There are other cases pending against him as well.

Adhir Chaudhury is a self-declared strong man of the Pradesh Congress known for his extreme hatred of the CPI(M), and he is not bothered to make a public statement in a magazine that he can be dubbed an ‘anti-social.’ (BP)
