AIDWA Condemns BJP’S Withdrawal Of Support For Women’s Bill

The All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) issued the following statement on September 24, 2007

THE AIDWA condemns the decision made by the BJP to resile from its position of support to the 33 per cent Women’s Reservation Bill. The statement made by its spokesperson. Sushma Swaraj, that the party will not support women’s reservation in seats as it does not favour rotation is a blatant betrayal of the women of this country, and violates its own assurance that was made in its election manifesto. This exposes yet again the BJP’s duplicity, and represents a continuation of its repeated attempts to sabotage the Bill.

To camouflage this betrayal, the party is attempting to highlight its decision regarding reservation for women within the party, which is a purely internal matter. AIDWA wishes to point out that the BJP’s decision to withdraw from its earlier position of support for the Women’s Reservation Bill is very harmful for the women of this country.
