COMRADE B S DHAKAD

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) issued the following statement on September 19, 2007

THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep grief at the passing away of Comrade Bahadur Singh Dhakad, member of the central committee and secretary of the Madhya Pradesh state committee of the CPI(M). Comrade Dhakad died in Gwalior in the early hours of September 19 due to heart attack. He was 67 years old.

Comrade Dhakad joined the Party in 1968 and became an organiser of the Party and the leader of the Kisan movement in Morena district. He was the general secretary of the state Kisan Sabha from 1986 to 2002 and his contributions to the building of the Kisan movement in Madhya Pradesh were notable.

Comrade Dhakad was elected to the state committee of the Party in 1980. He became a member of the state secretariat in 1987. He was elected as the secretary of the state committee in 2001 and became a member of the central committee of the Party at the 17th Congress in 2002.

Comrade Dhakad was a staunch adherent of Marxist-Leninist principles. He served the Party devotedly. The state Party office building in Bhopal was constructed from the proceeds of the sale of his landed property. In the last three years, even though he had serious health problems, he refused to reduce his workload.

The demise of Comrade Dhakad is a big loss for the Party and the Left movement in Madhya Pradesh. His dedicated and simple life will be an example for all comrades.

The Polit Bureau pays homage to his memory. It conveys its heartfelt condolences to his wife and family members. (INN)
